How to use the app
LifeLink — User Manual
Welcome to LifeLink. This manual explains how to use the app day-to-day: signing in, managing profiles, working with tags and recovering access.
1. Signing in
- Open https://app.example.com in a modern browser.
- Click 'Sign in' in the top-right corner.
- Enter your email and password, or use a social provider if enabled.
- New user? Click 'Create account' and follow the confirmation link sent to your email.
2. Recovering your account
If you forget your password:
- On the sign-in screen, click 'Forgot password'.
- Enter the email address associated with your account.
- Check your inbox for a one-time code (OTP). It expires in 10 minutes.
- Enter the code and choose a new password.
If the email doesn't arrive within 5 minutes, check your spam folder. Still nothing? Contact support@example.com.
3. Creating a profile
- From the dashboard, click 'New profile'.
- Enter a display name and choose a slug (this becomes the public URL: /p/your-slug).
- Add contact details, emergency info, medical notes and anything else relevant.
- Toggle 'Public' on to make the profile viewable, or keep it private and add a passcode.
- Save. The profile is immediately live at its slug.
Available profile types
Each type comes with a purpose-built field set. Pick the one that matches how the tag will be used:
- Medical / ICE — personal medical + emergency info for first responders.
- Pet — dog, cat or any animal; tag on the collar for safe return.
- Vehicle disc — windshield or keyring disc for cars, motorcycles, boats.
- Luggage / bag — suitcases, laptop bags, backpacks.
- Equipment / asset — laptops, cameras, tools, instruments (company or personal).
- Bike / scooter — frame tag for bicycles and e-scooters.
- Kid wristband — theme parks, events, school trips.
- Elder / memory care — for loved ones with dementia or memory loss.
- Digital business card — tap-to-share contact details.
- Property / keys — keyring tag for keys, remotes, garage openers.
- Travel profile — trips abroad: embassy, hotel, insurance.
- Family profile — one tag for the whole household.
4. Working with tags
Tags link a physical NFC chip or QR sticker to a profile.
- Open a profile → 'Tags' tab → 'New tag'.
- Give the tag a label (e.g. 'wristband', 'wallet card').
- The app generates a unique URL. Copy it, or use the NFC writer to program a chip.
- Optionally set a passcode. Anyone scanning the tag will be asked for the passcode before the profile shows.
- You can recover a tag's passcode at any time — see section 5.
5. Recovering a tag secret
Passcodes are stored encrypted at rest. As the tag owner you can recover the value:
- Open the profile → 'Tags' tab.
- Find the tag and click 'Reveal passcode'.
- Confirm your account password when prompted.
- The passcode is decrypted server-side and shown once. Copy it before closing the dialog.
6. Scanning a tag
- Tap the NFC chip on your phone, or open the QR link.
- If a passcode is set, enter it when prompted.
- The profile loads with all the info the owner has shared.
7. Admin tools (admins only)
- Stats — profile count, total views, top profiles.
- Users — grant or revoke admin roles.
- Profiles — search, view or delete any profile.
- Activity — recent tag scans across the platform.
- Site brand — change logo, colors and site name without redeploying.
- Deploy — download a white-label bundle for spinning up another instance.
- NFC — bulk-program tags from a browser with WebNFC support (Android + Chrome).
8. Privacy & security
- Profile data is only visible to people you share the URL with (or the public, if you toggle it).
- Passcodes are encrypted with per-instance keys and never logged.
- Sign-in sessions expire after inactivity — sign in again if prompted.
- Delete a profile at any time from its settings; deletion is permanent.
9. Getting help
Email support@example.com for support. Include your account email and a description of the problem — screenshots help.
